LITTLE BIG BAND play 1930's 1940's music. We are based in East Yorkshire and play for lots of 40's ‘theme night’ dances. The band plays specially written arrangements of this period to give an authentic big band sound, but using only six musicians and a female singer, so as you can see the band is much more affordable than a 15 piece and of course live music is infinitely preferable to a Disco. GOOSEBUMPS is a five-piece jump jive blues/swing band based in Kent.  Formed only 18 months ago with a passion to keep alive and put a new twist on great old bluesy jazz songs that very few people are performing these days. This summer has seen Goosebumps playing all over the county of Kent at large open air events. The Hop festival Faversham, Broadstairs folk week, Canterbury city centre at the European food fair. Herne Bay 'Big Band Day' run by the local council, the Kent County show and many other  festivals too many to mention. We are attracting an audience from all age groups as well as  vintage dance groups (jivers and lindy hoppers) and this adds to the atmosphere and fun of our shows. RAF BLAKELAW was a Second World War Royal Air Force Fighter Command station based at what is now Kenton Bar, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Although the site now contains government buildings there still exists an underground bunker with an operations room, mess and plant room. Until recently the bunker remained hidden from general knowledge just as it had done during the early years of the War. A small number of enthusiasts have formed the ‘RAF Blakelaw Preservation Group’ with a two fold purpose: 1. Restoring the bunker to its former glory and making it available to the general public as an historical and educational establishment. 2. Finding former RAF staff who served in the bunker and former members of 13 Group Fighter Command to collect and preserve their stories for posterity. This small website takes you on a tour of what is an eerie reminder of the days when this country was under threat of invasion: Visit their site at: http://www.bunker13.110mb.com or http://www.rafblakelaw.co.

The group will be inviting people to subscribe to memberships as friends of the bunker but details haven’t been released as yet. They are currently looking for more people to join the management team, hopefully, in the north east as meetings are held locally. ANNE SHELTON was one of the greatest British singing stars of the 40s and 50s. Her songs including 'Lili Marlene' and 'Lay Down Your Arms' kept troops and civilians in high spirits throughout the Second World War and into the 1990s. Little is known of the real Anne Shelton, her career with legends such as Ambrose, Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby and her private life.  This web site contains details of her biography “With a Smile and a Song” written by her neice Kelly Richards also a CD called “Thank You Captain Miller” with Anne singing with  Glenn Miller and his Orchestra in 1944 (the whole 30 minute broadcast of Glenn is on the CD which is a collectors item) also on the CD Anne is singing a duet with Bing Crosby (also in 1944).
