I DON’T WANT TO SET THE WORLD ON FIRE -To mark the 70th Anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War, Stafford Players are presenting Bob Eaton’s critically acclaimed musical play “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire”. This play, through songs, laughter and tears, charts the lives of workers in the local Munitions Factory at ROF Swynnerton during the 6 years of conflict. The production takes place on the Main Stage at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford at 7.30pm from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th of November 2009. VC DANCE at the Canalhouse Pub on Station Street in Nottingham on the 6th November 2009.  It is a charity dance for the Victoria Cross heroes from Nottingham.  All profits are in aid of getting a statue erected at Nottingham Castle to these men.  The Dance is part of a wider event, which is a beer festival, running from the 5th-8th November 2009 at the same venue.  We have 20 guest ales, many military themed such as Bombardier and Spitfire.  There is a discount on beer for serving or former servicemen and women.  Admission to the dance is free and music will be provided by DJ Major Swing. THE FORTIES EXPERIENCE WEEKEND being held on 24th & 25th April 2010 will be the fourth successful annual event organised by the Lincolnsfields Children’s Centre Charity at their historical site in Bushey. (Bushey Hall was Wartime H.Q of the 8th USAAF Fighter Command), This show, located on our 17 acre site, which has steadily grown in popularity since it started, will include  some 300 civilian and military Living History re-enactors who will bring to life the war years. You will meet soldiers, sailors, pilots, civilians (including spivs, housewives and ARP wardens). As part of the entry price you can visit the 1940’s house, wander through the Dig for Victory garden with its original Anderson Shelter. Your children can take part in a lesson in the Evacuee's School in the village hall. The whole family can learn all about “Make Do & Mend”, see the militaria display, learn about the secret history of Bushey Hall- enjoy one of three Old Time Music Hall shows with Forties Songstress – Fiona Harrison and then maybe go behind Enemy Lines to see portrayals of the Axis Forces and visit a bombed –out city street somewhere in Europe, watch a battle re-enactment.. A great, fun, inexpensive day out for the whole family – the only extras you might choose to pay for will be period refreshments in our NAAFI café and other full refreshment facilities, a 1940’s Kiddies Funfair with a few “ rides,” or try your luck” and vendors’ stalls selling period memorabilia and artefacts. There will be no Dinner Dance at this years show but there will be an evening marquee licensed bar serving modern hot meals – complete with musical entertainment! If you can’t get along to this great show on 24th / 25th April then you can still enjoy many of these experiences at our Forties Experience Open Days which take place on the last Sunday of every month throughout the year. ROUTE TO VICTORY VE65 is a 3 day event on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd May 2010 for Military Vehicle owners and Re-enactors. 2 private days of Historic Vehicle Convoys that visiting relevant historical sites in the Kennet Valley and Salisbury Plain area. The third day is the big public spectacular in Ramsbury, with static Living History Displays, arena displays, flying displays and a Parachute Drop. The Base and Show Field for the three days is “Camp Ramsbury” a large field at the back of the Village next to the Primary School. This field was the historical location for the 506 PIR 101st AB Div and was later to become the home of 2nd Parachute Squadron RE. Please note that both Saturday and Sunday day time activities are exclusive to military vehicle owners and re-enactors only attending the event. FLASHBACK TO THE 40's & 50's on October 4th - 8th 2010 at the Sand Bay Holiday Village, Beach Rd Kewstoke, Nr Weston Super Mare Avon. This is our fabulous break with the first 3 days geared entirely to the war years. The Blitz Ball which is part of the break has been running for 23 years touring the UK and abroad is part of the package. Every conceivable detail is included with the ballroom decked out like a forties dance hall. The George Thorby Big Band perform every night and we also include our own. Air Raid Warden, Forces Sweetheart, Del & DePaul. With broadcasts from the war years, a very convincing air raid and victory celebrations at the end you will see why the show is so popular for many. The 4th day is a trip into the 50's with the big band playing Rock N Roll and the ballads from the 50's. The cabaret will be Just The Two Of Us.Songs made famous by the Bachelors to name but one. There will also be an Outdoor Model Aircraft Display (weather permitting). The entertainment is non stop every night plus the entertainment team are on hand with organised events during the day. You can even pop into The Old Vic and watch a film in the afternoon and have a pint or two. All the sites facilities are yours to use plus a good breakfast and evening meal daily.
